Friday Musings - 10/17/08

- Per Cheryl's suggestion, here's the last question from the last blog with a bright and shiny new blog post:

"Do you think if an atheist or deist or some other "ist" was running for office...would they be electable?" I'm curious about your thoughts.

- "Joe the Plumber" seems to be getting more press than either candidate. This....THIS....is what a culture of reality television gets you.

- The Natural History Museum notes the discovery of the world's longest bug. If I found that thing in my house it certainly would be the world's flattest bug. (I went for the cheap joke there. Most of you know I wouldn't kill the buggy. I always wanted to be an entomologist).

- There's now a shortage of bananas thanks to a new diet fad in Japan. I have a banana right here on my desk which I will now be posting on eBay. :: fingers crossed ::

- Warren Buffet claims to be buying American stocks. If I had his disposable income, I would too.

At least it was something cool like a stick bug. I swear to you all if I found a foot long cock roach you would hear my screams from wherever you are in the world....and then my sobbing.

He would look nice on our mantle.

I like to say "Warren Buff-ay," 'cause it makes visions of Vegas buffets dance in my head.

*Do those .99 steak buff-ays feature horse steak or washed-up showgirl steak? Nobody knows.

An entomologist would be a good President. As qualified as Sarah Palin.

So would a PhilanthropIST

but not a knickertwIST

(cough cough)

Here's one more question for you: Why are liberals so full of hatred?

mulderjoe said...

What an excellent question. Excellent, excellent, excellent. Truly: excellent. Did I mention excellent?

But wait! Why stop there? Why are conservatives Jesus Freaks? Why do Pro-Lifers murder doctors who perform abortions? Why are Puerto Ricans lazy, illegal aliens? Why are African Americans in gangs or running for office?!

Boggles the mind.

mulderjoe,

After being personally attacked, I realized I did not belong here at this cyber forum and had determined to bow out gracefully (?). I realize, however, that my initial comment to this blog could be construed as an attack, and for that I apologize. I should have chosen my words more carefully. I also apologize for my last comment; it was a cheap shot.

I can't go away, however, without answering one of your questions (charges?).

Yes, there have been some pro-lifers who have murdered abortionists, but I think you'd agree that the mental stability of those particular pro-lifers needs to be questioned.

Stories such as the murder of abortionists get a lot of press. What get very little press are stories about the women who have died as a result of legal abortion. If you google "woman who bled to death from perforated uterus during abortion," you'll find links to stories on a number of such cases.

Abortion has far-reaching consequences. It's about so much more than a woman's decision to kill her baby. When you get right down to it, the only reason killing someone who bugs you is wrong is because that person's life is INTRINSICALLY just as valuable as yours -- not just because she has a better job than you or because he has a wife and kids and you don't. It's all about human dignity. Legalized abortion sends a negative message about the value of human life. If we teach our citizens that each and every human's life is not intrinsically valuable, why should we proscribe murder? Why is rape a crime? Why should slavery be illegal? Why should we treat others as we want to be treated?

Further, abortion goes against nature. A woman's body was designed to bear and nurture children. Abortion is not in the best interest of a woman's body. Those who have had an abortion are much more likely to die within ten years than those who have given birth in the previous ten years. Women who have aborted have greatly increased risks of breast cancer, post-traumatic stress disorder, and self-destructive behaviors such as drug and alcohol abuse and suicide.

That was my "pro-life rally." I'll leave you alone now.

Hi Cheryl,

I must apologize for my cynical response to your cynical post. After all, if we were to be this cynical, we should be writing on a blog that dealt with cynicism...

The point about pro-lifer's murdering doctor's was to illustrate that obviously not all pro-lifer's are murders. Although, you do have to acknowledge the irony of the former(!).

Stereotypes exist for at one time, something/someone that allowed that stereotype to emerge. For the most part, stereotypes are indeed complete and utter generalizations that do not apply to the vast majority of the stereotyped person.

The thing is, if you make a blanket statement like that: back it up. If you're referencing other posters, then quote them. If you have a formed argument, then write it. If you have neither, then make it funny, challenging and be prepared to defend yourself. Or not, I guess.

Am I going to have to separate you two? Play nice now in the sandbox!

No offense Cheryl but that was a generalized stereo type you laid about liberals being full of hatred. As you can see there are many people on this blog sharing their opinions funny, or otherwise, but I don't believe anyone has done any attacking until your statement. It just seemed out of place, and frankly made you sound uneducated.

I don't have a problem with your comments but can I just say...LIGHTEN UP A BIT! I don't mind debates but you sound like you're reading from a text book, and quite frankly, non of your posts sound like they are from your own thoughts, just things that you have absorbed through other people and decided to take on.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, so just state yours and try not to ram it down all of our throats.

I actually liked Cheryl's question,
"Why are liberals so full of hatred?"

I think it's because they're sick of always being wrong.

I'm just sayin'!

Gustavo Larry said...

Actually, I think they're just mad because, in the political version of dodgeball, they were forced to pick Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. I'd be wanting to trade them too.

I did, however, enjoy Joe's use of stereotyping. I think this is a place where lots of people with different views can pick at the other side in a comedic manner

mulderjoe said...

Joe O: the liberals are actually all just envious of conservatives who get to bomb the sh*t out of middle eastern countries and spend 800 billion dollars doing so.

Also, if George Bush is always right, then sign me up for being wrong!

M. Larry: Is Al Sharpton liberal? Then I'm officially conservative. Actually, I'm still voting Bennett/Ouellette. And thanks re: stereotypes. I didn't even mention the damned Irish.

Horroru said...

Oh yeah, well conservatives are envious of liberals who think Bush is always right!

Or something....

mulderjoe said...

And conservative liberals and liberal conservatives conserve library libations...

Oh forget it.
